Music

Saxaphone

My musical taste is extremely catholic. As a listener I enjoy almost all forms and genres, but as a performer, I’m a dyed-in-the-wool bluesman.

I cut my musical teeth to the sounds of the Mississippi Delta and the blues has always had the power to move me and raise the goosebumps.

My first instrument is the harmonica. In blues-music called a ‘harp.’ Over the years I’ve played with a number of blues bands and still occasionally sit-in for a jam session with some local musicians.

I also play guitar and now have quite an interesting selection. Currently I’m attempting to learn the banjo. My efforts have yet to earn high praise, even among members of my usually devoted family.

Here I’ll be sharing sounds of the music I make and of the music I love. Hope you’ll join me.

I’ll begin with a photo of my favourite guitars and my banjo

Five of my favourite guitars plus my beautiful banjo

These wonderful instruments have given me enormous pleasure over many years and are played regularly, both by me and some of my visiting guitarist friends.

Here’s a small selection of my harmonicas, the instruments which first inspired me to play ‘The Blues.’

Here’s some sounds of me playing my Taylor 12 String.

Scarlett Quinn of Kitten and the Hip

Saw this eclectic band live last year at the Dartmouth Music Festival. Their vocalist, the remarkable Scarlett Quinn, is an exciting new talent. Make sure to go see Kitten and the Hip if they’re playing a gig near you. Their latest release ‘Shut Up And Dance’ showcases Scarlett’s vocal pyrotechnics to perfection. Make sure you have a listen.
